ABOUT
The API 1169 Pipeline Construction Inspector Certification Program was developed by the American Petroleum Institute (API) with support from the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) Foundation and the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) Foundation. This certification program is endorsed by INGAA and by the Canadian industry through previous industry associations (i.e., CEPA).

QUALIFICATIONS
The API 1184 certification is available for qualified applicants. Applicants can qualify under five categories, each involving different certifications and work experience. We recommend visiting API’s qualification page to confirm that you meet the requirements.

EXAM QUESTIONS
All questions on the API 1169 examination are derived from recommended practices and documents for American and Canadian inspectors. These reading materials can be found on API’s Exam Info page under “API 1169 Publications Effectivity Sheet.” It is important to note that publications will not be available during the exam.
APPLICATION PROCESS

Go to API’s Individual Certification Program (ICP) Portal to apply for the exam.

Once the application has been processed, you will receive an “Eligibility ID.”

Use this ID to schedule your exam through the Prometric Site.

API’s official fee page lists the fees for all of API’s certifications.
OUR RECERTIFICATION EXAM PREPARATION COURSE

RECERTIFICATION
API’s official recertification page states that inspectors are required to apply for recertification every 3 years. In addition, inspectors are required to take an online open-book quiz to recertify every 6 years.
