UNDERGROUND FACILITY LOCATING RESOURCES

Underground Facility Locators locate and mark underground facilities (e.g., communication and alarm cables and gas, oil, water, and sewer pipes) before ground disturbance activities (e.g., construction). This service is crucial in preventing damage to underground facilities, and, due to an increasing number of construction projects, is highly in demand. However, the Underground Facility Locator career is relatively unknown, leading to recruitment difficulties.

To support recruitment efforts, the Government of Alberta, the Canadian Association of Pipeline and Utility Locating Contractors (CAPULC), and Jiva Consulting have developed resources for Underground Facility Locators. To ensure a diversity of perspectives and the effective capture of accurate information, an industry advisory committee representing various aspects of the locating industry (e.g., locating businesses, training companies, and equipment suppliers) helped guide the development of said resources.

As a result of this project, the following resources are available. Each resource can be accessed by clicking the corresponding link.
